10 things to do when in self-isolation

It’s not just the children that are going to be challenging when in self-isolation, it’s likely us adults are going to struggle a bit too. Whether you have children or not, there is only so much you can do before feeling stir crazy, so we have come up with a lovely list that will make time pass by and keep you occupied.

1.       Do a home workout

It’s only going to be time before the gyms are closed and with the wonderful power of the internet, why not keep in shape behind clothes doors and do some exercise. There are thousands of free videos on you tube, from yoga for beginners, right through to HIIT sessions. If you are looking for something controlled or more focused, there are some great plans with Joe Wicks and Lucy Mecklenburgh.

2.       De-clutter

It is Spring, so why not have a thorough Spring Clean. You can get those charity bags piled up and if you are little savvy, sell your unwanted items on eBay, Depop, Facebook marketplace or Gumtree.

3.       Happy wife means happy life – do some DIY

This may feel slightly sexist, but we are going to go with it. How long has the spare room needed painting? Does that gate need fixing? Or does the garden need doing? Now the weather is improving, and it looks like we are going to be home-based for some time, why not get these never-ending chores completed. Amazon prime is the place to get ordering and you can abolish that to do list in no time.

4.       Learn a new skill

Online tutorials are amazing, from learning to play an instrument to learning how to fix a tap, there is millions of videos to show you how to get creative. It takes your mind off the day job and boring household tasks. I’d head to You Tube and learn something that’s been on your list for months.

5.       Cook your other half a romantic dinner

You can still make an effort, spend some time getting dressed up and make your other half a romantic dinner, you could do a picnic on the floor in your living room, or pull together a slap up 3-course dinner and get dressed up with your favourite music and lovely conversation. Brownie points for you too.

6.       Do your family tree

We are big fans of Ancestry.co.uk. It is so interesting looking at old family records and pulling your family tree together, you can share it with family and friends and get in contact with family that you may have lost along the way… starting some great connections and conversation.

7.       Bake a cake or make home made pizzas

Get creative in the kitchen, even on your own or with a friend / partner. You can put some music on and get the flour out and cook up a storm in the kitchen, then why not relax in front of a film when indulging.

8.       Netflix / Amazon Marathon

There are so many amazing series and film on both Amazon and Netflix, ones that will keep you enticed for hours… it seems obvious but have a look. You can always get great ideas and reviews on Digital Trends.

9.       Review your finances

This sounds boring but could save you thousands each year. If you’ve never changed utility providers, compared insurances or reviewed your TV, broadband and mobile you could be paying so much more than you need to be. This is usually a task most put off, but why not spend some time looking at it. The best guidance we always us is the Money Saving Expert, here you will find every link you need to saving money. 10.   Play a game

-          Monopoly (Board Game)

-          Scrabble (Board Game)
