10 things to do with the kids this easter

Easter is a great time of year to get out and adventure with the kids. Things may be a little different this year but memories can still be made. Here are our suggestions for keeping the kids entertained and having fun for all the family this Easter holiday.

Ideas from indoor crafting on those rainy days to an exciting Easter egg hunt, when the sun comes out – just be sure to collect any chocolaty treats before they melt.

1.       Easter egg hunt.

Whether this is done outside in a garden or inside throughout the house, this super fun Easter activity will be enjoyed by all. Collect your own colour eggs and find the golden egg to win a prize or bring out your child’s competitive side and see who can collect the most. At the end everyone can enjoy chocolate from the Easter Bunny.

2.       Bake delicious biscuits.

Bake and decorate some Easter biscuits using your favourite recipe gingerbread, choc chip, or shortbread. Use some shaped cutters to make bunnies/chicks or make them round and get the kids to use their imaginations to decorate. Icing, chocolate, sprinkles you name it kids love it.

3.       Make Easter cards.

This activity is fun for children of all ages and you don’t need to have an overflowing craft box. Paper, scissors, and colouring pens/crayons are all you need to get started. Let the children create a personalised, extra special handmade card for family and friends they can’t go and see.

4.       Paint eggs.

A classic easter activity. Boil those eggs and get the paints out. The kids can then make a hunt to find them or use them as decorations.

5.       We are going on a ‘Bunny’ hunt.

A spin on the classic story ‘we’re going on bear hunt’. Take the kids out in the fresh air and burn off all that extra energy they always seem to have. Whether this is at the beach, a local park, through the woods, or around the block- kids love to adventure outdoors.

6.       Egg and spoon race.

This is one for all the family and you can get your practice in for the school sports day. Create obstacles to make the course harder and get the family together by making team races. You can even use your painted eggs from earlier.

7.       Read/write easter stories.

Whether you have a new book from the Easter Bunny or an old favourite on the shelf, kids love a good story. For the older ones, why don’t they try to write their own easter story, which they can illustrate as another activity.

8.       Give a gift basket.

Teach children about random acts of kindness this Easter by creating a little gift basket to give to a relative or neighbour. They can become the Easter Bunny and deliver it to their doorstep. This can include little cheerful notes like ‘You’re Egg-cellent!’

9.       Pin the Tail on the Bunny.

This could be bought or become creative and make your own- get the cotton wool out for those bunny tails. This always gets the family laughing, cover their eyes, spin them around, where will that tail be found.

10.   Plant some flowers.

Make use out of those out-grown wellies and let the kids enjoy watching the flowers grow. Poke a few drainage holes in the bottom of the boots, fill with some compost, and plant the seeds. You can choose any seeds but sunflowers are always a favourite as they grow easily and quickly.
